The Opportunity

An established and highly respected Building Services Design Consultancy based in Sheffield is looking to recruit an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its growing team.

With a history spanning more than 35 years, the consultancy has developed an excellent reputation for delivering innovative, sustainable and technically challenging building services designs across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, education, commercial and residential developments.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer who is looking to take greater ownership of projects, work alongside experienced engineers and develop their career within a supportive and forward-thinking consultancy.

The Role

As Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering electrical building services designs across a varied portfolio of projects, working closely with clients, architects, contractors and other engineering disciplines.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Designing electrical building services systems, including lighting, small power, LV distribution, emergency lighting and fire alarm systems.
• Producing electrical calculations, specifications, technical reports and design documentation.
• Managing electrical design packages from concept through to detailed design and construction.
• Undertaking site surveys and assessing existing electrical installations.
• Coordinating electrical designs with mechanical engineers and other project disciplines.
• Attending client meetings and design team meetings.
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry requirements.
• Supporting junior engineers and contributing to the development of the wider design team.
• Liaising with clients and contractors to ensure projects are delivered to the required standards, budgets and timescales.

About You

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as an Electrical Design Engineer within a Building Services Consultancy.

You should have:

• A minimum of approximately 5 years’ experience in electrical building services design.
• A relevant HNC, HND or degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
• A strong understanding of electrical systems within commercial buildings.
• Experience using industry-standard design software such as Amtech/Trimble, Dialux, Relux or similar.
• Experience with AutoCAD and ideally Revit.
• A good understanding of current electrical regulations and design standards.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to liaise directly with clients and other professionals.
• The ability to manage your own workload and take responsibility for project delivery.

Membership of a relevant professional institution, such as CIBSE or the IET, would be advantageous.
